In the early stages of figuring out what your business is, deciding on a mission statement which will serve the business both now and in the future, meeting the needs of funders, employees, and customers, is difficult. The challenge is to make the mission statements specific enough that it is clear that it is for your business alone and would not work just as well for another business or a competitor, while making it general enough to allow for your strategy to develop over time.
In a highly competitive and rapidly changing world, organizations need focus, clarity and clear direction. One of the tools that can contribute to this outcome is a mission - vision, defining statement and/or statement of purpose. In my opinion, it doesn't matter what you call it as long as you have some way of determining what you are, what you are becoming and why you want to get there.
Alex Grey, author of The Mission of Art , writes that the purpose of making art should not be trivialized into a career path toward fame and fortune. If we create also for the purpose that it might further awaken Spirit in others, then making art becomes a spiritual mission as well.
We reached closer to the high security zone of the expanded Palaly Army camp area. Our vehicles stopped near a military barrier manned by the Sri Lankan Army. There were two pick-up vehicles coming towards us, and the officers started to check our identification. Thereafter one pick-up vehicle drove in front of our vehicles and the other one came behind. The destruction resembled worse than that of the Bosnian and Afghan ghost towns. We were passing nearly a three-mile long road passing over the Jaffna Lagoon in its both sides.
I couldn't imagine how a tremour underneath in the form of an earthquake by tectonic plate movements caused a massive disaster in the coastal areas of most of the Indian Ocean Rim countries. Memories of the early morning travel from George Town, the capital of Penang Island of Malaysia to the Teluk Bahang, the northern coastal front of the island still come to mind with the different panoramas of the Strait of Malacca and the silently waving southern seas of Andaman-Nicobar Islands in the far distance.
